if my theories are right it has those letters in brackets in case you're learning japanese and are somewhat familiarized with the layout so you know what each option does, ex (N)ame

this is the best thing ever

i think there's plenty of operating systems that do that when set to japanese

i could be wrong but xp might have done it like that
