also any laptop user should be using gnu/linux, it does everything that laptops are designed to do with more efficiency than windows or macintosh as well as having far better ram allocation, which most laptops would need.

then try linux mint/xubuntu, they're both very similar to windows but do linux-y thingsMagician wrote:Kagiyama wrote:i should tryKghyilda wrote:he should have used a men of war gameKagiyama wrote:i think

I was planning on switching to Linux when I got around to getting a proper computer rather than a laptop so the experience might be good so could you drop a link to a download of gnu/linux?

Re: is this a bad thing
There isn't a single download link to gnu/linux, it's spread across a whole bunch of distributions which all look and feel different. here's a few:Magician wrote:Kagiyama wrote:then try linux mint/xubuntu, they're both very similar to windows but do linux-y thingsMagician wrote:Kagiyama wrote:i should try

Ubuntu: most popular and user friendly, has a really weird UI though. http://www.ubuntu.com
Xubuntu: Ubuntu with the XFCE interface xubuntu.org
Linux Mint: Ubuntu's kid brother, as easy to use as ubuntu and can do a little bit more http://linuxmint.com/
Fedora: features bleeding edge technology, ie full of software that's still in beta stages http://fedoraproject.org/
Debian: i guess you could call it the 'basic linux distribution', respectable and usable http://www.debian.org
crunchbang: pretty much Mint for hipsters http://crunchbanglinux.org/
openSUSE: see debian's description, http://www.opensuse.org/en/

Which one did you choose?Magician wrote:Holy fuck I have no idea what I'm doing.
also in case you didn't know, you take the downloaded .iso file, burn it onto a CD (use Astroburn etc), restart your computer and launch the startup menu (usually opens when you press Esc or F12 on the first few seconds of starting up) and boot from the CD.

It felt very clunky.

I just downloaded it straight onto the PC.
Seemed to work fine, computer asks me which OS I want to run when I start it up.
